Manaen, man'-a-en (Gk. fr. Heb.)--consoler; comforter.

Foster brother of Herod the tetrarch. He was one of the five prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch (Acts 13:1).

Meta. The five prophets and teachers in the church at Antioch, mentioned in Acts 13:1, represent those who interpret Spirit to the outer consciousness. Manaen (comforter, consoler) refers especially to the activity of the Holy Spirit in individual consciousness in its role of comforter, giving consolation and cheer.
