Metaphysical meaning of Gashmu (mbd)
Gashmu, gash'-mu (Heb.)--rain; violent rainstorm; heavy downpour; body-like; corporeal body; corporealness.

An Arabian who opposed the Jews in the rebuilding of the Temple and the walls of Jerusalem (Neh. 6:6). Same as Geshem.

Meta. A leading factor in the Arabia state of consciousness in man. The Arabians signify unproductive thoughts and tendencies. The ruling tendency for which Gashmu stands believes firmly in the permanent materiality of man's outer consciousness and body. Gashmu signifies the error belief that every one who attempts to redeem and spiritualize his body has to deal with: the belief that it is utterly impossible to make the body immortal, and that it is foolish, and really a rebellion against nature and against God, to try to do so. (Corporealness refers to the body as material; the rebuilding of Jerusalem's wall signifies the renewing and eventually complete spiritualizing of the body.)
