Metaphysical meaning of Heresh (mbd)

Metaphysical meaning of Heresh (mbd)
Heresh, he'-resh (Heb.)--workman; artificer; craftsman; carpenter; worker in stone; magician; silent; secret; dumb.

A Levite (I Chron. 9:15).

Meta. Love, active and passive (workman, silent). It is in the stillness, in passive waiting upon God, that strength and understanding are gained for greater activity; thus love becomes a skilled workman (artificer) in constructing anew the body temple (carpenter, one who plans and builds houses). The priests and Levites, in their activities connected with the worship of God, symbolize our so-called "natural religious tendencies," not necessarily spiritual. As the descendants of Levi, who represents the love faculty in individual consciousness, the Levites represent thoughts belonging to the love faculty.
