Metaphysical meaning of Cretans (mbd)

Metaphysical meaning of Cretans (mbd)
Cretans (A.V., Cretes, and Cretians), cre'-tans (Gk.)--cut off; carnal; fleshly.

Inhabitants of Crete (Acts 2:11). "One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons" (Tit. 1:12).

Meta. Carnal, deceitful, gluttonous thoughts, they belong to the carnal consciousness in the individual. (See CRETE.)

In Acts 2:11, however, we see these Cretans hearing in their own tongue, from the Spirit-filled apostles, of the mighty works of God. There must therefore be something in the apparently carnal nature of man that can comprehend the Christ Truth, and so be raised to spiritual understanding and expression.
