Metaphysical meaning of Merathaim (mbd)
Merathaim, mer-a-tha'-im (Heb.)--double bitterness; double rebellion.

A symbolical name given to Babylon on account of the double captivity to which the Israelites had been subjected by this country (Jer. 50:21).

Meta. The increasing resistance, strife, obstinacy (double rebellion), grief, distress, and all-round inharmony (double bitterness) that the higher consciousness of man (Israelites) experiences as his bondage to confused, error thoughts (Babylon) grows seemingly deeper and stronger while he allows himself to drift farther away from the Truth that frees.
