Raham, ra'-ham (Heb.)--to soften; to soothe; to be fond; to cherish; to love; pity; mercy; compassion; tenderness; inwards; belly; bowels; womb.

Son of Shema and "father" of Jorkeam, of the tribe of Judah (I Chron. 2:44)

Meta. The tender, merciful, compassionate, brooding, mother phase of love active in the high, somewhat spiritual thoughts of man (to soften, to soothe, to cherish, to love, pity, mercy, compassion, tenderness, inwards, belly, bowels, womb, a man of Judah). In the Authorized Version, we read of "bowels of compassion" and "bowels of mercies" (I John 3:17; Col. 3:12).
