GOD MIND

[the document begins with page 2]

Your comment about the power of God indicates that you have not the right understanding of the nature of the Divine Principle. God is not an all-powerful man, but an all-powerful Principle which man uses if he so wills. If man does not will to use God in his affairs, he should not attribute the results to God, nor think that God is not all powerful. God’s power in the world is exercised through men, and when man cooperates with God, then God exercises unlimited power.

Had Lloyd George, and the other representatives of the nations of the world, opened their conferences with prayer, and asked for the cooperation of God, the effect would have electrified the whole world, and peace and harmony would have followed. But, as you know, this has not been done by our governmental leaders. In fact, they have not even asked God to take part in their deliberations. The result is discord and inharmony the world over, the result of selfishness and ignorance of the law of love and cooperation.

There will be no enduring peace in the world until the divine principle lying back of and within all action are recognized and invoked by the world’s leaders. It is useless to question the power of God or find fault with Christianity, or any other religion that claims the authority of God; neither will agonizing prayers and like dissertation on the goodness and love of God avail, so long as God is ignored in matters affecting the world’s affairs.

Men must understand the laws of Divine Mind as they understand the laws of mathematics. God has surrendered all His powers in the world to man, and man is dominated by the Satan of personality. It is incorrect to say that God exercises all power in the world. God does not exercise power in man’s world unless man opens his mind to the Divine Will. This opening of the will of man to the Divine Will is a matter of Divine volition. Jesus went right to the heart of the subject and gave a formula for every man when he said to the Father: “Not my will, but thine, be done.”

We see no lasting harmony in the affairs of man until there is an understanding of the Truth by our leaders and educators. “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” The truth about God must be taught by spiritually minded people. It must not only be taught, but demonstrated by practical application in classes where ideas, thoughts, and words will be tested and their results observed with the same discrimination that the chemist or electrician would use in his laboratory.

This proposed remedy for the ills of the world may seem too slow to reach the pressing needs of the present, but we should remember that the truth about God has been expressed by illuminated teachers in every period of the world’s history. Many of them have been largely misunderstood, but enough of the truth has filtered in so that we find everywhere certain minds quickened and expressing the fundamentals of permanent civilization. The efforts of these progressive souls may seem sporadic and fragmentary when compared with the chaos of human error. But we see evidences of an organized spiritual power in men, which is greater than the power of ignorance and evil. This wise power will eventually set up a kingdom in the earth in which peace, harmony, justice, righteousness, will prevail.

That this spiritual power is moving men here and there is evidenced by the efforts which certain recognized leaders are making to find a remedy for the world’s ills. Like Lloyd George, they see the short-sighted aims of the contending nations, and the futility of the present movements to satisfy and harmonize them, because the people are looking to material aids instead of spiritual.

The great majority of the world’s leaders lack spiritual vision. “Where there is no vision the people perish.” Like all men in their last extremity, some the world’s great men are calling on God to help them. But it is a far cry because they do not understand the character of God, nor do they know how to invoke His power. Jesus founded His church on faith in God as spirit. Paul tells us in a few words in Hebrews 11:6, how to bring the power of God into action: “He that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.”

When Christian people read their bibles aright, and in prayer and invocation lay hold of omnipresent God Spirit, the world will have peace and prosperity—not until then.
