Metaphysical meaning of Amasai (mbd)
Amasai, am'-a-sai (Heb.)--burdenbearer; burdensome.
The name of several men who were of the Levites, or priesthood (I Chron. 6:25; 12:18; 15:24; II Chron. 29:12).
Meta. The thought of great responsibility or burden (burdensome, burdenbearer) that comes to one who feels very strongly the necessity for following set rules in keeping the letter of the law. Priests and Levites represent our "natural religious tendencies." They typify religious thoughts, but not necessarily spiritual thoughts. When they are of the intellect rather than of Spirit, they become the basis of a formal religion wherein rites and ceremonies take the place of true spirituality. Thus they make one's religious experience a burden instead of a blessing. The Truth makes one free.
