Metaphysical meaning of Narcissus (mbd)

Metaphysical meaning of Narcissus (mbd)
Narcissus, nar-çis'-sus (Gk.)--daffodils; narcotic; illusion; stupefying.

A man at Rome. Paul sent salutation to the members of his household, who were Christians (Rom. 16:11).

Meta. Mental inertia, or a thought tendency belonging to the intellect of man, the head (Rome), that tends to inertia of perhaps both mind and body (narcotic, stupefying). The family, or thoughts that lie nearest in relation to this cause of apathy and inaction, have been quickened and awakened by Truth (the household of Narcissus are "in the Lord"), thus the whole condition is in process of redemption.
