Metaphysical meaning of Phicol (mbd)

Metaphysical meaning of Phicol (mbd)
Phicol (A.V., Phichol), phi'-col (Heb.)--mouth of all; spokesman for all; all-commanding; every tongue; the whole speech.

The captain of the host of Abimelech king of Gerar (Gen. 21:22). He was a Philistine.

Meta. The seeming all-sufficiency of the sense consciousness in man at a certain stage of his unfoldment or evolution (mouth of all, spokesman for all, all-commanding, every tongue, the whole speech, captain of the host of Abimelech king of Gerar, of the Philistines, Philistines signifying sense consciousness). At this stage of his unfoldment the individual seems to live wholly in the outer sense realm and to understand, perceive, and judge entirely according to the seeing of his outer eyes and the hearing of his physical ears. Thus the senses are all-commanding in his life; he gives all his thoughts and faculties over to the extension and support of the senses, and taboos everything of a higher, spiritual nature.
