Metaphysical meaning of Shaaph (mbd)
Shaaph, sha'-aph (Heb.)--cutting off; separating; division; divided mind; doubtful; skeptical; divided opinions; branches.
a Son of Jahdai, of the tribe of Judah (I Chron. 2:47). b Son of Caleb and his concubine, Maacah, and founder of Madmannah, of the land of Judah (I Chron. 2:49)
Meta. In its most positive or extreme sense Shaaph signifies denial, denial of error (cutting o, separating, division). Preceding this comes a division of thought in the mind, a certain discernment between good and seeming error. If this discernment is applied negatively double-mindedness might enter in: doubt, skepticism, divided opinions. (See JAHDAI, CALEB, and MADMANNAH.)
