Metaphysical meaning of swaddling clothes (mbd)
swaddling clothes (Luke 2:7, 12).

Meta. "Swaddling clothes" were bands of cloth in which it was customary to wrap newly born children. They represent confinement to the limitations of the physical nature (manger) of this first emanation of divine life, "because there was no room for them in the inn” (outer consciousness).

The helplessness of man's thoughts about the new life can also be said to be represented by the "swaddling clothes."
