Metaphysical meaning of Talmon (mbd)
Talmon, tal'-mon (Heb.)--oppressor; oppressed; wronged; violent oppression; violated; despoiled; captive.
A porter in the house of God (I Chron. 9:17). Some of his descendants returned with him from the Babylonian captivity (Ezra 2:42). He kept watch at the gates (Neh. 11:19).
Meta. A thought activity on guard at the gate or door of the consciousness (a porter in the house of God, who kept watch at the gates). This thought activity is of the old-established religious thoughts (one significance of the Jews) and is not open to the real Christ Truth, since it is of a tyrannical and violent character. This tends to keep the individual in bondage to old ideas and conditions (oppressor, violent oppression, oppressed, captive) instead of aiding him to become truly free from limited beliefs and their results in the outer world. "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."
While the porters, or thought activities within us that guard the door of our consciousness, must be of a positive character to keep out error thoughts and invite true ideas, there should be nothing of personal force, anger, or tyranny about them. The word spoken in love, faith, and the true Christ power suffices.
