a A field at the top of Pisgah (Num. 23:14). b The latter part of the name of a place in the hill country of Ephraim (I Sam. 1 :1).
Meta. An attentive, vigilant attitude, but more from a standpoint of looking on from the outside than laying hold of and becoming one with that which is perceived (watchers, watchmen, viewers, lookers from afar; a field at the top of Pisgah, where Balak, king of Moab, took Balaam to try to induce him to curse Israel).
