Metaphysical meaning of altar (mbd)
altar, al'-tar (Lat.) .
Meta. The place in consciousness where we are willing to give up the lower to the higher, the personal to the impersonal, the animal to the divine.
The golden altar for incense, the altar of the burnt offerings, and so forth (Ex. 40:5, 6) symbolize the establishing of permanent resolutions of purity and covenants of conformity with the higher law of obedience, though it cause daily sacrifice.
The brazen altar that was used in the Temple worship (I Kings 8:64) represents the generative life.
The altar that is mentioned in Revelation 11:1 symbolizes the consciousness of full consecration that takes place first in the temple of worship. "Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service" (Rom. 12:1). "Them that worship therein" represent our true spiritual thoughts that love and worship God.
The altar of I Kings 18:30 represents the solar plexus, or the centralization of all the nervous energy in body consciousness.
