Metaphysical meaning of Araunah (mbd)
Araunah, a-rau'-nah (Heb.)--pine of Jah; Jehovah is firm; a strong one; a hero.
It was at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite that the angel's hand was stayed, at the command of Jehovah, from destroying Jerusalem. David bought this threshing floor from Araunah, and offered sacrifices there for the children of Israel (II Sam. 24 16, 24). he name is Ornan in I Chronicles 21: 15-28.
Meta. A threshing floor is symbolical of judgment; threshing out grain and separating it from the straw or chaff symbolizes a discriminating between good and apparent error in consciousness and a letting go of the error. At first this process may seem hard, and one may see only the unyielding firmness and strength of Spirit in these judgments, apart from anything of a loving or merciful nature (Jehovah is firm, a strong one). When divine love, represented here by David, begins to express consciously, a real refining process takes place (David offered sacrifices after building an altar to Jehovah); then the seeming destructiveness of judgment disappears, and harmony is established.
Araunah represents judgment, or separation of good from error, as-it appears to the error side, which is being destroyed. David symbolizes the realization of divine love, which changes one's attitude toward this judgment or segregating of error and putting it away from the consciousness. Thus Araunah (the firm determination of Jehovah--the I AM in us to put away seeming error) becomes a preserving quality, since we can he saved alive and entire only as we rise above all limitation and error. As we so overcome, the forces and powers within us work constructively instead of destructively (the destroying angel stayed his hand) .
