Mystic Keys of Hermes

Hi Friends -

Here are several new resources from Dr. John D. Rankin, who oversaw the building of The Pyramid at the Unity church in Houston and who has left us a rich rich trove of esoteric Christian writings:

• Audio files of seven sermons given at Unity Church of Christianity from the 1970s (and I will add more as people send them to me).
• Two insightful comments about John Rankin from a book by Judy Kennedy have been added to the John Rankin profile page.
• The second of a series of talks in a series called Mysteries of the Christos given later in his career at the Church of Divine Presence (and I will be grateful for the others if anyone has them).
• PDF and text of The Mystic Keys of Hermes, a commentary of the seven principles of the Kybalion.

The Kybalion: Hermetic Philosophy, originally published in 1908 by a person or persons under the pseudonym of “the Three Initiates”, is a book claiming to be the essence of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. You can read plenty about it on Wikipedia and other resources.

While the Kybalion is classic New Thought literature; John Rankin's commentary is deep esoteric Christian insight. The Kybalion claims to speak about how the world works; John Rankin speaks about how the soul works. We read on the back cover,

In opening ourselves to experience, we begin to know ourselves and the revelatory aspects of the life and objects surrounding our beings. We become aware of the oneness whether we are looking inward or expanding outward. John D. Rankin’s words make the vision of the reader realize the knowledge of self in his own cosmos. We are taught to see, to hear, to touch—to experience through knowing.

This book will resonate with anyone who is a Metaphysical Christian. It will resonate with anyone who reads John Sanford's work or who gets inspired by the writings of Carl Jung. I hope you enjoy it.

Why is that? Why do I hope you will read it? Because if you do read it and if it does resonate with you, then you have made a sort of payment—a "spiritual payment"—to me and others who publish Metaphysical Christian resources on the Internet. Your have paid with your time; you have "paid attention" to the work and legacy of people like John Rankin who prepared and cultivated new insights into the teachings of Jesus. If you do read it and if it does resonate with you, then you have contributed in a positive way to the what Jesus referred to as the Kingdom of Heaven, what Carl Jung referred to as the Collective Consciousness and what the Fillmores called the Race Consciousness. And we need all of that we can get.
