Amos, a'-mos (Heb.)--burden; load; borne up; sustained; carried.
The writer of the book of Amos. He was a shepherd (Amos 1:1; 7:10-14).
Meta. Conscience, which shepherds the natural forces of mind and body. (Sheep represent thoughts that are obedient to the natural law; they also represent the pure natural life of the body.) Amos in us warns us when we have transgressed the divine law.
