Metaphysical meaning of Dagon (mbd)

Metaphysical meaning of Dagon (mbd)
Dagon, da'-gon (Heb.)--fish; little fish; fish god; abundant propagation.

A god of the Philistines (Judg. 16:23).

Meta. A great increase of thoughts (fish, abundant propagation). This thought increase is on an error, sense plane, however, and not on the spiritual plane. The Philistines symbolize states of consciousness established in the senses; they were enemies to the Israelites, who symbolize true thoughts. The thoughts that the Philistines represent in us are constantly inducing us to trust to our outer senses for guidance and understanding; they lead us away from spiritual Truth. Their god therefore pertains to outer sense reasonings and activities, and not to the spiritual and the true. (See BETH--DAGON.)
