Metaphysical meaning of Gershon (mbd)
Gershon, ger'-shon (Heb.)--thrusting out; driving off; expulsion; exile.
Eldest son of Levi, who was one of Jacob's twelve sons (Gen. 46:11); he is called Gershom in I Chronicles 6:16.
Meta. See GERSHOM.
The love consciousness does not always dwell in or express love at the first; it sometimes acts quite contrary to a loving spirit. This is shown in Levi, who was the one of Jacob's sons who stands for the love faculty in man. See his violence as revealed by Jacob in blessing his sons (Gen. 49:5, 6). It is at this stage of individual unfoldment, before one has become established in divine love, which is always kind and true, that one experiences that for which Gershon stands.
