Metaphysical meaning of Ittai (mbd)
Ittai, it'-tai (Heb.)--nearness; companionate; with (God); being; existence; oneself; the same; selfsameness; reality.
"The Gittite," a friend of King David's (II Sam. 15:19-22). David put him at the head of one third of the army that he sent out to fight Absalom (II Sam. 18:2). Another Ittai was "the son of Ribai of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin" (II Sam. 23:29); he was a member of David's guard, and is called Ithai in I Chronicles 11:31.
Meta. Like Ithai: the awakening of that within man which is ever conscious of his existence in Being, of his relationship to God. (See ITHAI.)
