Metaphysical meaning of Sephar (mbd)
Sephar, se'-phär (Heb.)--spiritual travail; meditation; numbering; recounting; remembering; narrating; engraving; writing; scroll; sacred writing; book; scribe.
Concerning the "sons" or descendants of Joktan, descendant of Shem, the text says: "And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest toward Sephar, the mountain of the east" (Gen. 10:30).
Meta. The east always represents the within, while a mountain signifies a high plane of thought. Sephar, "the mountain of the east" (meaning remembering, engraving, numbering, book, scribe), is, in consciousness of the individual, that high place within the spiritual realm of his being where a record is kept of all the thoughts, ideals, tendencies, desires, and activities to which he has given place, even those that belong to the seemingly changeable and unestablished phase of his consciousness (the Arabian tribes that were descended from Joktan).
