Metaphysical meaning of Timna (mbd)
Timna (in A. V., Genesis 36:40 and I Chronicles 1:51, Timnah), tim'-nå (Heb.)--withheld; restrained; forbidden.
a Concubine to Eliphaz, Esau's son, and mother of Amalek (Gen. 36:12, 22). b A chief of Esau, or of Edom (Gen. 36:40).
Meta. A restricting, curbing influence (withheld, restrained, forbidden) that is ever at work even in the soul of man and in his body consciousness. This influence is the result of the power and the perfection of Spirit that are inherent in every desire of man, no matter how materially these desires may be interpreted by man's carnal thoughts and tendencies. This restricting influence is good; it is very necessary until man has really entered into the regeneration and has lifted his desires, thoughts, and expressions to the Christ standard. If there were no restraint to the carnal mind in man, and to its activities, man would destroy himself utterly.
