Metaphysical meaning of Rekem (mbd)
Rekem, re'-kem (Heb.)--decking with colors; variegation; embroidering; shaping after an elaborate pattern; floriculture; artistic coloring; decking with princely raiment.
a One of the five kings of Midian that the Israelites, under Moses, overcame and slew (Num. 31:8). b A city of Benjamin (Josh. 18:27). c Son of Hebron and father of Shammai, descendant of Caleb, of the tribe of Judah (I Chron. 2:43)
Meta. Rekem, like Rakem, pertains to the cultivation of ideas of Truth, of that which is beautiful, spiritual, Godlike, of that which belongs to the bringing into manifestation of the image-and-likeness-of-God man (decking with colors, embroidering, shaping after an elaborate pattern, floriculture, artistic coloring, decking with princely raiment). In a king of Midian this cultivation of beauty and Truth would be from a personal, carnal standpoint, and therefore would be defective; in a city of Benjamin and a man of Judah, it would take on a truer, higher aspect.
