Metaphysical meaning of Elnathan (mbd)
Elnathan, el-na'-than (Heb.)--bestowed of God; God gives; given of God; God's gift, i.e., conscience that God bestows.
a Grandfather of Jehoiachin, king of Judah, and son of Achbor (II Kings 24:8). He "made intercession to the king that he would not burn the roll" that contained Jeremiah's prophecies, but the king would not listen to him (Jer. 36:12, 25). b There were other Israelitish men by this name also (Ezra 8: 16).
Meta. The conscience that God bestows--the inner intuition, discrimination, and sense of judgment that are given of God to man to enable him to know the right course to pursue and also to know the result of willfulness and disobedience.
