Metaphysical meaning of Rhodes (mbd)
Rhodes, rhodes (Gk.)--rose; roses; a place of rosebushes.
a An island in the Mediterranean Sea. b A city on the island. Paul stopped at Rhodes on his way to Jerusalem (Acts 21:1).
Meta. The places mentioned in Acts 21:1-3,-- places through which Paul passed on his way to Jerusalem, whence he was going against the repeated warnings of Spirit--with the exception of Patara, indicate pleasant phases of consciousness in the individual who is seeking the highest. These pleasant phases of consciousness are not, however, really on the spiritual plane. Rhodes (roses) symbolizes a phase of love or human affection, the rose being a flower that stands especially for the love thought in man.
